Conestoga 2007

I've decided I'll not be attending Conestoga this year, which is a shame as I was really looking forward to it, but I've been promised a spot in the lineup in 2008 so with luck and good timing I'll be back then. This may open up other convention possibilities later in the year though. We shall see.

Novel(ty) in Progress

The progress I've made on my novel, which I'll refer to as TCON, has so far been slow, a lot slower than I'd have liked, but I am moving along on it... slowly. So slowly in fact that I began wondering how you estimate how long a story will be when it's finished. I asked a few of my fellow writers that question and pretty much got the answer "you just sort-of... know".
No, sorry, I don't know, but I intend to figure it out.
So I started thinking about how to extimate that. In my case, I used the number of words in my manuscript and tried to make a comparison with how far I'd gotten into the outline (my outlines look like treatments). What I came up with for a total word count was mind-boggling 150,000 plus! Of course, when you consider the lengths of novels being printed these days it's not as staggering a notion as I'd originally imagined.
With edits no doubt it'll weigh in somewhat thinner, which is fine.
I'm going to set aside a small part of my site to track my progress on TCON, and we'll see how it goes.

Tulsa Bound

I'll be attending Conestoga, July 28-30 in Tulsa, OK. I'm excited about this particular convention, as you should be, because it's a celebration of three birthdays at once -- the 10th anniversary of Conestoga, the 10th anniversary of Meisha Merlin Publishing, and the 10th anniversary of Yard Dog Press.

It's the 10-10-10 Celebration!

Some of the things I'll be participating in include the Yard Dog Press Traveling Road Show, and a reading from one of the Bubbas of the Apocolypse anthologies on Saturday, and of course the Bubbas of the Apocalypse mass signing on Sunday.

A link to the latest schedule is available on the programming page of the Conestoga website.

Hope to see you there!!

"More Stories" makes children think twice

More Stories That Won't Make Your Parents Hurl is a collection of stories that teach children there really are consequences to our actions, and just like in the best traditions of the Grimm brothers when you're a bad girl or boy then you're gonna pay. There's no pablum here, nothing honey-sweet or politically correct, just good stories. Featuring some of the best short story writers in the business, MSTWMYPH is the real thing - horror stories that teach while they entertain.
